Industrial Robots

Compare industrial robot architectures around payload, reach, tooling, process and integration. Explore the current ABB catalog and define the complete workcell before selecting equipment.

Engineering selection guide

Specify the workcell before choosing a robot.

A robot model is one part of a production system. Define the workpiece, tooling, process and acceptance criteria first, then compare candidate architectures against the same operating conditions.

  • Payload and reach: include the gripper, cables and carried part, then check reach, inertia and joint loading throughout the path.
  • Motion and process: compare articulated, collaborative, parallel and SCARA arrangements against orientation, access, cycle time and repeatability.
  • Integration: account for fixtures, sensing, controllers, communications, maintenance access and recovery from interrupted cycles.
  • Safety and acceptance: evaluate the complete application, including tooling and surrounding equipment; a robot category alone does not establish a safe workcell.

Use the current ABB robot listings for published models and specifications. For integration planning, read our ABB robotics application guide and explore robotics engineering support.
